Toowoomba girls in league of their own

The Toowoomba Junior Rugby League have confirmed the formats for the Under 12, Under 14 and Under 17 girl’s competitions.

President Dan Aldons said he was excited to announce that 10 clubs would compete in the inaugural TJRL competition.

“Warwick and Kingaroy will join the eight TJRL Clubs to contest the first-year of a stand-alone girl’s rugby league competition in Toowoomba,” Aldons said.

Games will be played on Friday nights with only the Under 14 and Under 17 grades playing for points and contesting finals.

Aldons said the girls-only competition was a huge step toward growing the game and supporting the already established Toowoomba teams.

“It will only get bigger and better,” Aldons said.

The establishment of junior girl’s rugby league being included in the TJRL competition is another chance for female players and their families to get involved with junior rugby league.

Aldons said the TJRL was impressed with the talent in the region and hoped this competition would develop and grow in girl’s rugby league.

“We are looking forward to seeing more girls out on the field this year,” Aldons said.

The girls-only competition will kick off on the weekend of April 26-27 and will run for 13 home-and-away rounds.
