James 'Ackers' Ackerman was a tough, hard-hitting footballer who never let his mates down.
He was a fierce competitor, genuine bloke, loyal brother, caring son, and a devoted and loving husband and father.
The former Sunshine Coast Falcons and Redcliffe Dolphins star tragically passed away during a match at Bishop Park in 2015, and in 2016 the Falcons and Dolphins introduced the James Ackerman Cup in honour of his legacy.
Todd Murphy - or 'Uncle Toddy' as James' children Ollie and Milly affectionately call their daddy’s best mate - returned to Sunshine Coast Falcons this year and helped the Falcons claim the James Ackerman Cup for the first time.
"Every game that I play, I take Ackers with me," Murphy, Falcons' vice captain this year, said.
Ackers' brother Andrew Ackerman was there, as he always is, to honour his brother and watch close friend Murphy do the same.
Both sat down with Ian Apps after the big game to reflect on James' life and what family and friends are doing to keep his legacy alive.
