Premiership-winning PNG Hunters skipper Ase Boas is set to link back with his former club after returning from England this week.
In a statement on their website, UK club Featherstone Rovers said they had “mutually agreed to release Papua New Guinea international and former Hunters captain Ase Boas from his contract with immediate effect, due to sudden changes in his family circumstances.”
Boas made five competitive appearances for the club which included a try-scoring home debut against Batley Bulldogs and kicking two goals in the team’s 46-16 victory over Halifax.
In the statement the club said they “would like to warmly thank Boas for his contribution to the club and wish him and his family all the very best for the future”.
PNG Hunters coach Michael Marum confirmed that Boas would link back with his former club.
“Ase is on his way back here (to PNG) and will come into (Hunters) camp next week after he gets medical and fitness done,” Marum told QRL Media.
“We look forward to welcoming him back home.”
His brother Watson however will stay in England, with the Featherstone Rovers stating he will remain in the UK and was available for selection in Sunday’s match against Dewsbury Rams.
