Round 2 of the Intrust Super Cup saw some cracking performances across the board. QRL Media highlight some of the best.
Each round, QRL Media recognise the 17 best performers and name the Intrust Super Cup 'Team of the Week'*. These team selections are based not only on statistical data, but also take on board live and broadcast viewings of the games, with the standout performer of the week to be named captain.
1.Ryan Papenhuyzen (Sunshine Coast Falcons)
The 2018 NSW Under 20s fullback was on fire in his first Intrust Super Cup game for 2019. The 20-year-old scored two tries, busted seven tackles and registered a massive 189 running metres.
2. Anthony Don (Burleigh Bears) (c)
Gold Coast Titans cult hero Anthony Don returned to Pizzey Park for the Burleigh Bears 500th game celebration. The Bears flyer was near-unstoppable scoring two tries and running for 184m in his Intrust Super Cup return.
3. Jesse Arthars (Burleigh Bears)
Along with his Titans team-mate Don, Burleigh centre Arthars was influential for the Bears in their 42-8 victory over the Ipswich Jets. The 20-year-old troubled the Jets left edge with his strong running game, crossing for two tries and recording 117 running metres.
4. Delouise Hoeter (Wynnum Manly Seagulls)
The experienced centre had a huge game in Round 2, scoring two sensational tries off kicks to help the Seagulls secure a convincing 36-16 victory over the Capras at Browne Park.
5. Treymain Spry (Tweed Seagulls)
Still eligible to play Hastings Deering Colts, the 19-year-old was outstanding for Tweed, scoring two tries and recording a huge 177 run metres against an experienced Blackhawks backline that included three former NRL players.
6. Dylan Phythian (Burleigh Bears)
The former Newcastle half lead the Bears around the park and laid on two quality try assists with a spiralling cut-out ball to winger Troy Leo, and a pinpoint cross-field kick to Titans flyer Don.
7. Sam Scarlett (Wynnum Manly Seagulls)
Wynnum Manly half Sam Scarlett was instrumental for his side against a strong Capras outfit, starring with both boot and ball with four try assists and 293 kick metres.
8. Sam Lavea (Easts Tigers)
The Easts recruit had a night to remember, crossing the stripe for two tries to help the Tigers to a 30-12 victory over Norths Devils at Bishop Park.
9. Harry Grant (Sunshine Coast Falcons)
The Storm-contracted hooker was pivotal for the Falcons, creating a number of opportunities with his running game and service from dummy half. The Falcons rake finished the game with 41 tackles, 69 running metres and a try assist.
Intrust Super Cup Round 2 Highlights: Dolphins v Falcons
10. Jamie Hill (CQ Capras)
Despite the loss to the Seagulls, the Capras middle forward was back to his barn-storming best in Round 2, with a try, a try assist, 139 running metres and 31 tackles to his name.
11. Kalani Going (Tweed Seagulls)
The young 22-year-old Tweed player was outstanding against an experienced Townsville outfit. The 100kg forward terrorised the Blackhawks pack with his powerful running game and tackle busting ability - recording 102 running metres, 10 tackle breaks and a four-pointer, in a Hastings Deering Man of the Match performance.
12. Patrick Kaufusi (Easts Tigers)
The 2018 Intrust Super Cup ‘Second Rower of the Year’ hit the ground running for his first game of the season with a 170 running metres, 55 post contact metres, and 24 tackles with 100% tackle efficiency.
13. Peter Hola (Northern Pride)
The young Cowboys forward was impressive against a powerful PNG Hunters forward pack. The New Zealand Under 20s representative set the pace for the Pride forward pack with a work-horse effort in attack and defence, finishing the match with 155 run metres, 21 tackles and 52 post-contact-metres.
14. Gehamat Shibasaki (Norths Devils)
The 2018 XXXX Queensland Residents centre was a standout performer in a losing side, registering a massive 221 metres and forcing his way over for a try in the 64th minute.
15. Gerome Burns (Souths Logan Magpies)
Former Queensland Under 20s live-wire Burns seems to be finding his feet at Souths Logan, producing a standout performance in Mackay with a try, try assist and 116 run metres.
16. Edene Gebbie (Wynnum Manly Seagulls)
The former Hunter has been near unstoppable in the first two rounds of the competition averaging 225 run metres and seven tackle breaks per game. The Seagulls fullback was again impressive, crossing for a try in the 51st minute.
17. Lachlan Roe (Sunshine Coast Falcons)
The Falcons middle forward honoured James Ackerman wearing the #18 jersey for the Sunshine Coast in the annual Ackerman Cup. Roe did the former Falcon and Dolphin's family proud, crossing for the first try of the match and recording 112 running metres in his 40-minute-stint.
