Harvey Norman Jillaroos coach, Brad Donald has named Ali Brigginshaw as replacement captain for injured fullback Sam Bremner, ahead of the upcoming Trans-Tasman Test Match against the Kiwi Ferns.
Brigginshaw captained the Broncos to an inaugural grand final win in the recent Women's Premiership and was honoured to receive the captaincy for the match this Saturday.
"It's been such an exciting year for women's rugby league and to finish the rugby league calendar with the privilege of captaining your country is truly special," Brigginshaw said.
"Everyone in the team has such a close bond and there's no doubt the team will be doing everything we can to record a win, not only for Sam, but for everyone in Australia."
Coach Donald said Brigginshaw was ready for the role, having carved out a significant leadership role amongst the Jillaroos over the past few seasons in particular.
"Ali is a talented leader on and off the field, with clear instructions and a natural feel for the game," Donald said.
"Whilst we're sad that Sam isn't able to take her position captaining the team, Ali will do a fantastic job on Saturday, surrounded by plenty of experience and a mix of debutantes."
