Revell-Blair hoping rep call-up earns NRLW deal

The inspirational example of two Broncos and Queensland legends is firing 17-year-old Prime Minister's XIII winger Rhiannon Revell-Blair to make the jump from school holidays to a torrid clash with the PNG Orchids in Port Moresby on Saturday.

Revell-Blair, a year 12 student at St Margaret's Anglican Girls School in Brisbane, is hoping to secure a contract with the Broncos in next year's NRLW competition. But first, she has the Orchids in her sights.

After representing Queensland against NSW earlier in the season alongside them, Revell-Blair watched idols Brittany Breayley and Ali Brigginshaw play key roles in Brisbane's inaugural Holden Women’s Premiership triumph.

"Hopefully I can get a contract soon … with the mighty Broncos," Revell-Blair said.

"It was very inspiring being able to play alongside Brittany Breayley and Ali for Queensland and it was a massive achievement for them to come away with that [NRLW] win.

"'Britto' has pushed me further to be where I am right now."

The challenge awaiting the rising schoolgirl talent in PNG excites her.

"I haven't been there before so it is a new experience. Hopefully I get to see the cultural perspective of everything and get amongst it," she said.

World Cup-winning Jillaroo veteran Rebecca Young said Revell-Blair was one of an exciting crop of young female stars coming through the system

"I am extremely impressed by Rhiannon and all of the younger ones," Young said.

"We have two 17-year-olds going over to PNG and it just goes to show that the pathways exist. The [NRLW] premiership will help that along.

"There were five of us over 35 at the last World Cup and we want to show that we have the next crop of girls coming through, and a taste of PNG over there will be a really good experience for them."
