Melbourne Storm CEO Dave Donaghy won't enforce a deadline on champion pair Cameron Smith and Billy Slater to decide their futures.
Slater has previously said he will decide on his NRL future before grand final day, while Smith hasn't ruled out playing next year and beyond if he retains the hunger to push on towards 400 games and beyond his 36th birthday.
"I think we've demonstrated with Cooper Cronk previously, Billy and Cameron as well, that those guys have been a huge part in building this club," Donaghy said.
"They deserve the respect around making a call on their careers and futures. It's no secret or surprise we'd love Cameron to keep running around, Billy as well.
"They have those decisions that they have to make, and hopefully we know where they stand sooner rather than later."
Slater (313 games) and Smith (377 games) have played their entire NRL careers at Melbourne and are still at the top of their game 15 years after their debuts.
The Storm are coming off a rare loss last Friday against the Rabbitohs and face a desperate Cronulla side on Sunday at AAMI Park.
Dale Finucane said the team needed to return to their best and shrug off the Bunnies defeat with the finals looming.
"Coming into this end of the year as well, you want to be playing your best football. We were probably a little bit inconsistent, especially in the second half when we didn't have an even weight of possession. Obviously that has a major impact on how we are going to go," Finucane said.
"That's something we want to rectify and do better this week against the Sharks."
Cronulla also are coming off a poor performance, a 33-32 golden point loss to Manly, who are battling to avoid the wooden spoon.
"They are a really aggressive pack, and have a good balance of strength and size," Finucane said.
"Guys like Matt Prior or Paul Gallen, they can play big minutes too. They are right up there in terms of forwards in the NRL."
The Storm announced on Tuesday they had passed 25,000 members for the first time in the club's 20-year history.
