Queensland Rugby League is pleased to announce the appointment of Rohan Sawyer to the newly-created role of Chief Operating Officer.
Mr Sawyer, who commences his role within the QRL Senior Leadership team in mid-September, has extensive leadership and commercial experience and a broad understanding of sports administration.
Most recently, Mr Sawyer has been leading a full-service sports marketing and events agency in his role as Managing Director at Event Sports and Entertainment.
In this position, he has worked closely with clients across various industries; developing and delivering market insights and investment strategies and building commercial partnerships within sport, major events and entertainment.
Prior to this, Mr Sawyer was Head of Commercial and Marketing for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, where he led teams across Australia, New Zealand and PNG.
He led the development of strategy and planning for all commercial and marketing functions, including partnerships, ticketing and pricing, travel and community programs, licensing and merchandise, brand, digital and broadcast rights.
In this role, Mr Sawyer liaised with government and major event bodies such as the NRL, NZRL, NSWRL and QRL, as well as NRL clubs and community rugby league groups.
As the new Chief Operating Officer, he will lead and manage the development and implementation of operations and partnership business within the game as aligned to the delivery of the game's strategic plan.
The newly-formed Operations team consists of State and Government operations, Statewide competitions, Elite Pathways and Representatives programs, Sponsorship and Marketing / Digital functions.
