The Queensland Rugby League congratulates Phil Dennis on his remarkable record-breaking achievement in the Intrust Super Cup.
Dennis, 34, becomes the competition's most capped player this Sunday when he spearheads the Souths Logan Magpies in their Round 20 clash against the Townsville Blackhawks at Davies Park.
The match will be the crafty ball-player's 271st outing in Queensland's premier statewide competition, eclipsing Redcliffe Dolphins stalwart Troy Lindsay (270).
This year is his 16th consecutive season in the Intrust Super Cup, a stunning achievement given the demands of balancing a high standard of rugby league with work and family commitments.
The most capped Intrust Super Cup player of all-time
QRL Managing Director Robert Moore said it was fitting that Dennis would break the all-time record for most games played on Souths Logan's Old Boys Day this weekend
"Phil has achieved a lot in our game and he should be extremely proud of his contribution over so many years," Moore said.
"Only a player with special qualities can be closing in on 300 games in such a strong competition.
"While the Intrust Super Cup is an integral part of the game's pathways to the NRL, it also provides an opportunity for talented and durable players like Phil to participate in a quality statewide league."
Dennis first appeared on the Cup scene in 2003 with Wests, before switching to the Easts Tigers for the 2004/05 seasons.
He has been a mainstay in the Magpies' first grade team since walking through the gates at Davies Park in 2006.
He soon established himself as a leader and in 2009 he took over the captaincy.
Highlights include the club's 2008 premiership and the bond he has formed with so many, from club administrators Jim and Barb McClelland to the many coaches, players and supporters who have been part of the journey.
He has played more Cup games (240) for Souths Logan than any other player, a record he holds close to his heart.
"I guess, because of my background in Ayr, I've always been someone who valued the concepts of family and community," Dennis told QRL Media ahead of Sunday's game.
"For those reasons, I fell in love with Souths Logan."
Sunday's Intrust Super Cup game between Souths Logan Magpies and Townsville Blackhawks at Davies Park, West End, kicks off at 3pm.
