The Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League 18 Years National Championships were held this past week (July 15-20) at Ned Byrne Field, Kingscliff NSW.
The competition saw some great games played; with the Australian Schoolboys team to tour England later this year also named at the conclusion of the tournament.
Three Queensland players were selected in the Australian Schoolboys team; with Marsden State High School’s Tesi Nui joining Palm Beach Currumbin duo Tom Deardon and Juwan Compain in the side. Queensland manager Jim Look and trainer Jim Wilson will also take part in the prestigious tour.
In the Championship final; NSW Combined Catholic Colleges turned around a defeat at the hands of the Queensland team earlier in the week to beat NSW Combined High Schools 28-14 in the final, with their halfback, Jock Madden named Player of the Championships.
