A new and exciting Under 20s competition is set to kick-off in the Central Highlands this season.
Following the decision by the CHJRL to field even age groups in the Junior League, the easy choice was made to pursue an Under 20s competition to bridge the gap between the Under 16s and A Grade.
Four clubs will be involved in the new competition, with the Emerald Cowboys to enter a standalone team and join a combined Blackwater/Bluff, Tigers/Springsure and Northern (Clermont / Dysart / Middlemount / Peak Downs) sides.
The six-round shortened season will conclude on Friday, June 22 with a grand final double header.
The format will see 1v2 play off for the trophy and 3v4 will play off for the plate.

Central Highlands QRL Operations Manager Cameron Stallard said it was great the League has been able to link the pathway from juniors to seniors and is looking forward to the competition.
“It’s important that we bridge the gap between the Junior and Senior Leagues and what better way than to have a dedicated Under 20s competition for our 17-20-year olds,” Stallard said.
“This new and exciting concept will give young adults who have finished playing junior footy an opportunity to continue playing the greatest game of all with their mates in an age-appropriate competition, easing the massive jump to A Grade.
“The new competition will also provide us with a direct pathway to the CQ Capras Under 20s in the new state-wide Hastings Deering Colts competition, with our very own Will Mohr already representing the region in Capras colours.
“I’m really looking forward to this exciting venture and hope the competition will grow in future years, strengthening the junior to senior pathway.”
