If Will Chambers or any of the other experienced Melbourne Storm players are looking for small ways to improve, they only have to look at how their fullback prepares.
Billy Slater addressed the team during the week and spoke about his desire to work on his game, despite running out for his 300th NRL match this Saturday.
"He's done everything in the sport but still wants to improve, and sees areas to improve," Chambers said.
"As long everyone tries to improve and move forward as athletes, I guess we (Melbourne) are going to go in the right direction."
The Storm know how to handle 300-game milestones, with the feat previously achieved by Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk.
Although getting a win for Slater is on everyone's minds, Chambers says there's no danger of getting swept up in the emotion on Saturday.
They take on an improving Wests Tigers side which posted an impressive 10-8 win against the Sydney Roosters last round.
"We're coming up against a fair outfit in the Tigers," he said.
"They were pretty impressive in round one and the way they played against the Roosters who were star-studded, and they turned up and kept defending and broke the Roosters late. We know we've got to turn up and play eighty minutes of good solid footy."
There's also no danger of taking the under-performing Tigers side lightly either.
Ivan Cleary's side boasts the likes of Russell Packer and Ben Matulino in the pack as well as veteran Benji Marshall at five-eighth.
Chambers is relishing the prospect of marking Fijian captain Kevin Naiqama in the centres too.
Slater's set of six moments
"It will be tough," he said.
"He's a good footballer. He's versatile and can play anywhere on the field. Ivan (Cleary's) got him playing in the centres. It looks like he's enjoying his footy. He played well on the weekend, and I know it's going to be a tough battle on Saturday night."
Chambers achieved his goals of playing for his state and country last year and is looking to build on that success again in 2018.
