Phins shut out Wynnum Manly
by Redcliffe Dolphins and QRL Media
The Redcliffe Dolphins proved dominant in their XXXX Rivalry Round match against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, shutting them out to record a 24-0 win at BMD Kougari Oval.
The Dolphins welcomed back centre Tom Opacic into the team after he was sidelined for a number of months last year with a shoulder injury.
Phins winger Josh Beehag had an afternoon to remember, scoring all but eight of his side’s points.
He opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a try in the right-hand corner and slotted the conversion to help his side to 6-0 lead.
The Dolphins crossed again soon after with Christian Hazard, who has been performing well in the half this season, going over after finding his way through a gap in the defence. Another Beehag had the Phins in front 12-0 and the score remained that way at halftime.
In the second half, a clever tip-on from Brandon Lee put Opacic in space to cross for a try with 20 minutes to remaining in the match; while a penalty goal to Beehag put the visitors ahead 18-0.
Capping off a dominant display; a length-of-the field effort set up by Tyson Gamble for Jonus Pearson saw the Dolphins go further ahead 24-0.
That play summed up the afternoon for the Gulls as they were attacking the Redcliffe line before coughing up the ball following some strong defence.
Next week, the Dolphins travel to PNG to take on the Hunters, while the Seagulls travel to play Easts Tigers.
