Chairman of the Absolute Enterprises Mackay Cutters John Glanville is today pleased to announce the appointment of Troy Rovelli as the new Executive Officer of the Cutters.
Rovelli replaces departing Executive Officer Ross Aldridge who is leaving the club to take up an appointment with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys in Townsville.
Mr Glanville said the club was delighted with both the number and calibre of applicants received for the position, which proved the club was held in high regard within the sporting community and was seen as a possible stepping stone to a career in high level sports administration.
"We had 20 high quality applicants from all over the country, and many were eminently qualified to fill the vacancy left by Ross,” Mr Glanville said.
“However, Troy was the most comprehensive in his skill set, with a business background primarily, but also with a long term involvement in the game of rugby league at the highest level.
“We look forward to him further building on the development of the Cutters that has been started by his predecessors, most recently Ross Aldridge, as well as continuing to develop the success of Stadium Mackay, of which he will oversee the management of.
“I should also take this opportunity to thank Ross Aldridge for his dedication to the role and to wish him and his family all the very best in their new lives in Townsville.”
Mr Rovelli has most recently been involved in a full time capacity with Southern Suburbs Rugby League Club and is a proud local who is keen to see the game continue to grow and develop in his home town.
Mr Rovelli said he was looking forward to the opportunity that lie ahead with the Cutters.
“Being involved in the local rugby league competition on a long term basis has given me the opportunity to intimately gather an understanding of the rugby league pathway that our town provides, and there is no doubt that it is an exciting one,” he said.
“I look forward to working with not only both the Board and Head Coach David Simpson and his coaching staff, but also the sponsors, members and supporters on what I am sure will be an exciting year ahead."
The 2016 season opens this Saturday night at Stadium Mackay with the highly anticipated local derby against the CQ Capras who are now coached by ex-Cutters Premiership winning coach Kim Williams.
A bumper crowd is expected with both the Under 16 Cyril Connell Cup and Under 18 Mal Meninga Cup teams playing the curtain raisers to the main event Intrust Super Cup Round 1 clash.
Gates open at 2pm with the first match scheduled to kick-off at 2.40pm.
