Round 7 wrap-up

THE Griffith Dragons have stayed a point ahead of the QUT Trouts on the Universities Rugby League Queensland ladder following Round 7 of the competition on Wednesday.

The Dragons overcame a brave Griffith Gold Coast Panthers 30-20 at Parkwood, with the Kiddie brothers, Elijah and Emmanuel, both getting over the line for the competition leaders.

Panthers’ captain Alex Wharton nabbed two tries as his team made the Dragons work for victory.

At Bishop Park, the QUT Trouts sounded a warning to their rivals after a 68-0 thrashing of ACU.

The score was not reflective of the vigour of the contest, but of the finishing ability of the Trouts, with half Brendan Baker bringing his season try tally to 10 with a hat-trick.

Second rower Adrian Lynch also scored three tries.

Griffith Logan showed they were not going to let their premiership defence slip with a 24-8 home victory over the University of Queensland Hounds.

The Redbacks blitzed the Hounds in the first half, racking up a 22-0 lead before holding on to keep their grip on third place.

The competition will take a break next Wednesday for the Ekka Holiday, but will return the following week when the Hounds host the Trouts, Logan Redbacks travel to meet the Dragons at Griffith and Gold Coast go up the highway to play ACU.

LADDER: Griffith Dragons 19, QUT Trouts 18, Griffith Logan Redbacks 16, UQ Hounds 13, Griffith GC Panthers 9, ACU 7.
