At it's March meeting, the South East Queensland Division Board confirmed the appointment of an additional independent delegate.

Dr Rachel Baird has joined the SEQ board taking the overall membership to nine delegates. Dr Baird was identified by division Chairman and QRL Director Brad Tallon from an application put forward for consideration to the QRL Board of Directors and her specialist qualifications are expected to be a major boost for the Division’s operations in the South East region.

Other Board delegates include senior league Chairs; John (Jack) Rhea – Ipswich, Keith Beaumont – Brisbane, and Peter Daley – Gold Coast, as well as other independent members in Terry Sessarago (Finance), Dan Moran (Juniors) and Darren Winningham (Match Officials).

Dr Baird is a lawyer with an environmental compliance background and hopes to bring some of that strategic thinking to the administration of the game. She has worked in many industries from the military to academia, private practice and the resources sector and has considerable experience to draw from.

Dr Baird, her husband Hugh, and their children have all participated in competitive sport and sport is a key part of their lives. She is keen to ensure all players develop more than just rugby league skills as they pass through the sport. Her goal is to support the SEQ Division, its leagues and clubs to ensure all participants, both male and female, mature into balanced young adults.

Dr Baird is a passionate Queenslander and a Melbourne Storm supporter. “I have great memories of the 2012 Grand Final which my 12 year old boy pleaded with me to take him to. At the end of the game I lost him for a while in a throng of passionate purple supporters. As Fatty says – “That’s Gold.”
