The inaugural Ladies League Tag match held in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition occurred at Pittsworth on Saturday between the Pittsworth Danes and the Warwick Cowboys.

The Toowoomba Rugby League recently introduced a Ladies League Tag Competition to continue the trend of more women becoming involved in the game of rugby league.

The ladies all thoroughly enjoyed participating on the weekend. The Warwick Cowboys were the winners on the day 22-0 in a highly entertaining match.

President of the Warwick Cowboys, Mary Anne Loudon, said: “The thing that really drives me, is the girl’s passion and love for the game. I can see some long term benefits to our club with introducing the Ladies League Tag Competition.”

Hopefully this wonderful initiative of the TRL will encourage more young female players to play and represent their respective clubs within their local areas in coming years.

Ladies who play League Tag also have the option of also transitioning into full contact rugby league with the “Toowoomba Fillies Rugby League Team” who play in the Brisbane Rugby League Second Division Competition at the moment. Learning the skills of League Tag, will help those wishing to play rugby league in the future to transition much more easily.
