On a sizzling 43 degree sunny day in Longreach, the annual 7s carnival was held for 2015 on Saturday, February 28.
Listen to the ABC Western Queensland report from the event: Hot Stuff at Longreach 7s
Players kept themselves well hydrated with water, sports drinks and the odd dip in a pool (a couple of teams thought well ahead and bought their own inflatable pool or tub).
Fantastic rugby league action was on display throughout the day and which was topped off by a great final between St Brendan’s Replacements and Brisbane Easts. Easts won the title in a nailbiter.

The Longreach 7s Committee wish to thank all the teams who came from near and far to participate in the carnival. It was especially good to have four women’s teams take part this year.
Longreach Senior and Junior Rugby League for their assistance throughout the carnival; all sponsors for the carnival; all the volunteers who helped out in any shape or form for this carnival; the match officials – Tim Steinhardt, Jeff Saunders, Rob Crow, Malcolm Wright, Mark Davies and Tim Penrose – these guys did a tremendous job throughout the day; announcer’s box – Leigh Cronin, David Scutt and Scott Parkinson and Radio 4LG for broadcasting the finals series.
We greatly appreciate your help. Thank you and most of all a huge thank you to the Longreach community for your support.
The Committee also wish to thank newly appointed Outback Operations Manager Peter Rafter who was in attendance at the carnival with the new mobile QRL van along with NRL Development Officer Rod Dahl (who kept the local kids busy with pass the ball) and Central Division Chairman Danny Maguire. We thank them for making the trek west to Longreach for the carnival.
The Committee look forward to seeing everyone back again in 2016.
