TJRL preliminary finals

Last Saturday on a lovely sunny day at Clive Berghofer Stadium, 16 teams contested for the final eight spots in the Grand Finals for 2014.

The day kicked off at 8.30am with the Highfields Eagles and Souths Tigers under 11’s, with the Eagles running out victors 22-4 and will now take on Dalby in the final.

The Under 12’s proved to be a tighter encounter with the win going to Souths over Brothers 24-18 and they will now face off with Pittsworth for the trophy on Saturday.

Gatton’s under 11/12 Development Cup team were victorious over Highfields 16-4 but the game proved to be much closer than the scoreboard showed and Gatton will now take on Dalby in a rematch from the semi-final encounter which should be a ripper.

The under 13 game between Highfields and Dalby was another very exciting match with there only being two points separating the two teams at the final whistle, Dalby coming away with the win 24-22.

Dalby will take on the Souths boys that are flying high after their golden point win the week before seeing them go straight into the Grand Final.

Underdogs Valleys under 14’s had an awesome game and were unstoppable beating Highfields 40-18 and will be heading to Saturday’s match against Presidents Cup and minor premiers Souths with their tails up as they are playing great footy at the right end of the season.

The under 13/14 Development Cup was once again a nail biting affair with the Pittsworth Danes coming from behind to take the match 10-8 against the Oakey Bears in the final minutes. They have now cemented themselves a spot in the grand final against Valleys who have led the comp through the second round.

Under 15’s was contested between Pittsworth and Brothers, with Pittsworth taking the win convincingly 46-16. The last time these teams met the result went the other way, but the Pittsworth boys made sure of it this time winning themselves a spot on Saturday with it being a Grand Final rematch from last year against a very dangerous Valleys.

The day ended with another Pittsworth team, the under 16’s also making it to next Saturday accounting for the Highfields Eagles 30-10 and will take on Grand final debutants Valleys in what promises to be a very exciting encounter.
