THE Tweed Heads Seagulls continued their strong march up the Intrust Super Cup ladder following their 30-16 win over the Norths Devils at Bishop Park on Sunday.

The Seagulls came into the round 15 match having moved into the competition top five the weekend before – in the process displacing the Devils from the top five spot they had held comfortably for a number of weeks.

A tight first half saw the sides go try for try; with the Devils opening the scoring early in front of their home fans. The Seagulls were able to hit back soon after however with Cory Blair crashing over with the successful conversion locking the scores at 6-6.

The next points came from Devils five-eighth Darren Nicholls who grabbed the first of his two tries before late Seagulls inclusion James Roberts went over the line – doing his chances of a call-up to the Gold Coast Titans NRL side no harm.

Taking a 14-12 lead into halftime – the visitors opened up their wings in the second half – piling on four straight tries.

Blake Anderson, Reg Saunders and Tom Merritt all bagged a four-pointer each, while Kalifa Faifai Loa also crossed for a typically entertaining try; gathering a pass from behind his shoulders, before outsprinting his opponents to put the ball down under the crossbar.

Norths however were able to score the last try of the match, when Nicholls made his way through some Seagulls traffic to collect his own chip kick ahead.

This weekend, the Devils will host the Wynnum Manly Seagulls as Bishop Park with both teams coming off losses. The now third-placed Tweed Heads Seagulls will be at home to the Ipswich Jets – who will be looking for an improved performance in this game.
