NEXT week, Mackay will host the State Under 18 Schoolboy Rugby League Championships.

Visitors from across the state are expected to flock to Mackay for the four-day carnival from Wednesday next week.  Preliminary games will be held at Souths Shark Park from Thursday, with the Championship final to be played as the curtain raiser to the televised Cutters v Ipswich Round 13 Intrust Super Cup clash.

With the support of Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal P/L, the Absolute Enterprises Mackay Cutters are pleased to offer visitors to the region free tickets to attend the home game on Sunday, May 25.

“DBCT P/L support of the local community and in particular our club is tremendous.  When I spoke to them about the State Championships coming to Mackay they were happy to throw their support behind it,” Cutters CEO Glenn Ottaway said.

He added, “DBCT P/L have committed to providing 750 general admission tickets to those visiting the region during the Championships.  These will be distributed evenly amongst the competing teams at the start of the carnival.”

The Under 18 Championships are a significant event on the rugby league calendar with many potential future stars of the game on show.

Mackay will be represented by players who will participate as part of the Capricornia School Sport team.  These include Jye del Simone, Jake Thornton, Mitchell Dunn, Mosese Uluiviti, Ryley Lappin, Kellen Jenner, Josh Morton, Jayden Con-Goo and Cody Kemp-Bruce.

The side will also be coached by former Mackay Cutters player and current Mercy College teacher, Michael Comerford.
