THE month of May is shaping up as a busy one for young women in the south east who love rugby league – with a number of coaching clinics and competitions kicking off to give girls more opportunities to play the game.

There are events to suit all levels of players – from the introductory level to a more advanced competition.

*May 2 will see the staging of the 2014 Titans School Girls Challenge Gala Day at Merrimac State High School.

The focus of the day will be on fun and increasing the participation of girls in the sport and is open to all secondary school students across south east Queensland.

The competition will be organised and run by NRL and Titans development staff and will consist of three age groups and two divisions: Under 14 (development focus), Under 16 Competitive, Under 16 Non-Competitive, Opens Competitive and Opens Non-Competitive.

Schools interested in submitting teams are asked to nominate by Wednesday, April 23 to darrenr@titans.com.au.

All players can register online at www.seqdevelopment.leaguenet.com.au to receive a $10 optional pack on the day

Contact your Physical Education teacher if you are interested if partaking in the day.

*May 3 is one of the biggest events on the calendar with the All Girls Clubs Challenge to take place at the home of the Norths Devils, Albert Bishop Park.

Although the date has now passed for clubs to nominate to be part of this year’s All Girls Club Challenge – there will also be an All Girls All Ages Skills Clinic being held in conjunction to the main event where girls of all ages are invited to a FREE NRL Rugby League Development Clinic.

This will take place from 9.30am to 11.30am and these girls are welcome to watch the NRL Under 14 All Girls Club Challenge which will show case girls 9-A-Side Rugby League in South East Queensland, taking place in the adjoining fields.

Full details can be found at the South East Division website.

In competitions news – the Gold Coast Girls competition will kick off on Wednesday, May 7 at 5.30pm at the Nerang Junior Rugby League Club.

This competition is for Under 14 girls and Under 16 girls and will be run in conjunction with the Gold Coast High Schools. All girls are welcome. The competition will run for 10 weeks and cost $150 per player. All who sign up will receive shorts, sock and a chance to be selected in the Gold Coast Junior Rugby League representative team.
