Biography
Robust winger Steve Stacey won two Brisbane Rugby League premierships with Easts Tigers - in 1977 and 1983 - as well as a state league title in 1982.
An Easts Carina product, and a Queensland Schoolboys representative, Stacey played for City against Country in 1978, marking Innisfail's Kerry Boustead, who went on to play for Australia later that year. Stacey and Boustead were selected in a South Queensland squad after that match.
Stacey made his senior Queensland debut under the residential rules in 1981. In 1983, he played for Queensland in two State of Origin matches, as well as making the tours of Papua New Guinea and England.
Stace' had everything in his favour as a representative winger - size, pace and form on the board at club level.
John Lang FOG #12 and Stacey's former Easts coach
Although there were brief stints with English club, Salford; Brisbane Brothers and Applecross in Western Australia, Stacey is synonymous with the Tigers.
He made his Origin debut from Easts in Game I of the 1983 series, and returned for the Lang Park decider, scoring a try as the Maroons achieved another Origin conquest with a 43-22 victory.
Queensland used five wingers in that series - Stacey, Chris Close, John Ribot, Terry Butler and Mitch Brennan, with Stacey the only winger to play two matches.
