The following year, he was joint winner - with Redcliffe's Test forward, Bryan Niebling - of the Rothman's Gold Medal as Brisbane's Best and Fairest Player.
Tronc was part of the Queensland XXXX Youth Squad in 1986, and was identified as a future Origin forward. In 1987, he joined Wests in Sydney, and the following year made his Origin debut, off the bench, in Game I of the series.
He returned to Brisbane in 1989 to play with the Broncos, and spent two years with the club where he was regarded primarily as a prop, before taking up an offer from Canterbury-Bankstown.
He played two seasons with the Bulldogs, and then coached their under 21 side.
He put the boots on again in 1994, with South Sydney.
Since his retirement, he has been involved with the game as an assistant coach at the Broncos and Redcliffe.
