Biography
Goal kicking winger Kyle Feldt played for the Junior Kangaroos against the Junior Kiwis in Newcastle in 2011, but had to wait until 2021 to make his State of Origin debut for Queensland.
A Norths Thuringowa Devils' junior, Feldt attended Townsville's Ignatius Park College and represented Queensland at Under 16 and Under18 levels. He was named in the National Youth Cup Team of the Year in 2011, after a stellar season for the North Queensland Cowboys.
Feldt finished his Under 20s career as the highest ever points scorer in the competition's 10-year history, with 570. He made his NRL debut for the Cowboys in 2013 and quickly became a cult hero, with his high-flying try scoring feats.
'I'm ready for my chance' - Feldt
South Sydney and rugby union's Brumbies made him offers in 2014, but he decided to remain at home. Feldt played a huge role in securing the 2014 Auckland Nines trophy for the Cowboys, with five tries and the 'Player of the Tournament' award.
Feldt was named in the QAS Emerging Maroons' squad at the start of the 2015 season, and finished the year by scoring the try, which sent the NRL grand final into golden point extra time, with Johnathan Thurston kicking a field goal, to give the Cowboys their first NRL title.
Feldt was also a big part of the injury hit Cowboys' courageous march to the 2017 NRL grand final, finishing the season with 15 tries in 28 games. Another consistent season in 2018, with 14 tries in 24 games and winning the Cowboys' Coaches award, presented by Paul Green at the end of season awards.
Feldt missed a large chunk of the 2019 season due a groin injury, but finished the year off strong with 11 tries, and represented the PM's XIII, before playing a key role for Australia's victory in the Rugby League World Cup 9's scoring four tries in the tournament.
In 2020, as he was part of a second NRL Nines triumph by the Cowboys in 2020. Feldt finished the year with 19 tries in 20 games, finishing the season as the clubs top try scorer for the 5th consecutive year. The Cowboys prolific try scorer capped off the season winning the Members' Player of the Year Award.
I’m delighted as anyone, to see him get a Queensland jersey. He is Townsville born and bred.
Peter Parr North Queensland Cowboys director
It was appropriate that his Origin debut should come in his home city of Townsville, in 2021, although the result is one he would rather forget, given the Blues won 50-6.
Feldt also played in the return Origin match in Brisbane. At the start of the 2022 season, he had played 154 matches for the Cowboys and scored 104 tries, second only to Matt Bowen. The Cowboys winger also had kicked 44 goals, for a career total of 504 points.
'It goes to another level when you play Origin' - Feldt
2024 would be his final year at the North Queensland Cowboys, and a memorable season it was with Feldt becoming the clubs greatest ever try scorer, breaking Matt Bowens records for Most Tries (151) and Most Tries in a season (23). Feldt finished his NRL career enjoying a finals series with the Cowboys, and becoming the 8th highest capped Cowboy with 217 NRL games. He later signed a three year deal with St Helens in the English Super League.
