Biography

Fiery five-eighth Greg Holben was an Easts Tigers stalwart who played a crucial role in his club’s only consecutive premiership triumphs, in 1977 and 1978.

He had one season with Brothers - in 1980 - before returning to the Tigers to finish his career.

An Easts rugby league junior, Holben played rugby union for Easts for three years on leaving school, and toured Japan with an Australian Colts side in 1971.

The following year, he played halfback for Queensland against the Junior All Blacks.

It didn't matter how long I was out there, five minutes or 50, it was a highlight of my life. You never forget.

Holben scored a try in the 14-10 win over Valleys in the 1978 grand final.

He played with Brothers in 1980, under the coaching of Wayne Bennett, before returning to Easts, to finish his career.

Holben played a key role in the Tigers' state league grand final win over Redcliffe in 1982.
