Biography

The man they call 'coal train', had the skills of a five-eighth, but his 125kg frame meant he was always going to play in the forwards.

Taylor played his junior rugby league for Blackwater Crushers, and attended St Brendan's College, Yeppoon, from where he was signed by the Brisbane Broncos.

The young forward made his NRL debut in 2006, but did not cement a starting spot at the club until 2009. Taylor signed with South Sydney in 2010 and became something of a cult hero with the fans. He made his State of Origin debut for Maroons that same year, playing all three games in Queensland's series whitewash.

Taylor went on to play a further five games for Queensland between 2011-2014, being part of another two series wins. Equally at home at prop or in the second row, Taylor was an interchange player for seven of his eight Origin appearances.

He's big and aggressive, the type of bloke you need at this level and he has Origin experience.

In 2012, he made his Test debut, playing second row alongside former Broncos' team mate, Sam Thaiday in Australia's 20-12 win over the Kiwis at Eden Park, Auckland. In 2013, he signed with Gold Coast Titans, and he spent three seasons with the club before moving to France in 2016 to play for Catalans Dragons.

Taylor returned to the NRL in 2017, signing with Canberra Raiders. He finished his career back where it began - in Central Queensland - playing for Central Queensland Capras, in the 2018 and 2019 Intrust Super Cup competitions.

On June 20, 2019, Taylor announced his retirement from rugby league. He played 181 NRL games and 26 in Super League.

Taylor has been working in the civil construction industry.
