Biography
The ultimate professional, Darius Boyd proved one of the finest footballers of his generation, playing 23 Tests for Australia and 28 times for Queensland. He never suffered defeat playing for his country, an amazing statistic, considering the number of Tests he played.
A former Australian Schoolboys' representative, Boyd played junior rugby league for Parkwood Sharks and Mudgeeraba Redbacks on the Gold Coast, and attended Palm Beach Currumbin High.
Boyd made his NRL debut for the Brisbane Broncos in Round 1, 2006 against the Cowboys and made 27 appearances in his debut season, including the 2006 NRL grand final, when Brisbane claimed a 15-8 victory over Melbourne Storm. He quickly established himself as one of the NRL's stars, making his State of Origin debut for Queensland in 2008, aged 20.
Boyd scored two tries on debut, from the wing, and went on to establish a lethal left edge combination with Greg Inglis. Boyd capped off a stellar 2008 with selection in the Australian World Cup squad, making his Test debut against Papua New Guinea.
Darius has been vital to the Queensland side for a number of years.

In 2009, Boyd followed club coach, Wayne Bennett to St George Illawarra, where he played 70 games and won the Clive Churchill Medal in the club's 2010 grand final victory over Sydney Roosters.
It was a season of honours, with Boyd also named Dally M Fullback of the Year; RLPA's Players' Player and Rugby League International Fullback of the Year.
In 2012, Boyd again followed Bennett, this time to the Newcastle Knights, where he made 62 appearances and scored 17 tries, being named Player of the Year in 2013.
Boyd returned to Brisbane in 2015, and played fullback in the grand final loss to the Cowboys. He won the Paul Morgan Medal as Broncos' Player of the Year in 2016 and was named skipper in 2017, joining former Queensland Maroons' champions, Wally Lewis, Darren Lockyer, Justin Hodges, Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker in having captained the proud club.
Boyd announced his retirement from representative football in 2018, having played 28 Origins and scoring 17 tries, one less than the Origin record holder, Inglis.
Boyd played 23 games on the wing for Queensland, four at fullback and one in the centres. When Boyd retired at the end of the 2020 season, he had played 337 NRL games, 206 of them for the Broncos.
He continues his association with the Broncos in their community and coaching departments.
