Biography
North Queensland Cowboys forward, Dallas Johnson set a new club record for most tackles in a season, with 1006 in 2011, on his return from a stint in France with Catalans Dragons.
His State of Origin career was behind him, but Johnson knew only one way to play the game - at full throttle.
Born at Atherton and raised on the family farm at Herberton, he played his junior football with the local club, as well as the Atherton Roosters.
Johnson represented Queensland Under 19s in 2000, in a team which included future Origin stars Corey Parker and Matt Bowen. That same year, Johnson came off the bench in Norths' Devils Queensland Cup preliminary final loss to Burleigh Bears. He had been signed by the Storm in 1999, and placed with the Devils.
Johnson made his NRL debut for the Storm in Round 1, 2003, alongside fellow debutant and Queensland Maroons' legend, Billy Slater.
Countless times he'd get knocked out and get back up. When I think of Dallas, I think work rate and tackles.
Darren Lockyer FOG #104
Johnson made his State of Origin debut for the Maroons in Game I of the 2006 series. He made a record breaking 62 tackles in Game II of the 2007 series, and made his Test debut against the Kiwis, in Melbourne, at the end of the year. He was also Dally M Lock of the Year in 2007.
After 157 NRL appearances for the Storm, and two grand final wins (2007 and 2009), Johnson signed with Catalans Dragons in the Super League in 2010, before returning to the NRL in 2011, with North Queensland, playing two seasons in Townsville, before announcing his retirement.
Johnson finished his career having played 222 NRL games; 28 in Super League; 12 Origin games and one Test. Self-employed, Johnson is a member of the NRL Judiciary and a committee member with the Men of League Foundation. He has dabbled in the media with a newspaper column, and is a volunteer and ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation.
