Biography
A foundation Bronco, Craig Teevan had enormous utility value, being able to play hooker and in the halves. Teevan grew up at Oakey on the Darling Downs, representing Australian Schoolboys in 1986 and the Queensland Under 19 side in 1987.
He also was a champion athlete, winning a state 400 metres title. Teevan played first grade for Oakey Bears when he was 17, and was runner-up in the Toowoomba and District Player of the Year Award. His older brother, Rohan played for Redcliffe in the Brisbane competition in 1986 and 1987, and like Craig, was signed by the Broncos for the club's inaugural season in 1988.
Teevan made his first grade debut aged just 18, from the bench in a round 19 match against Wests Magpies in 1988. He made his starting debut in the centres, in round 20 against Parramatta. Teevan had stints with Cronulla (1991) and Manly (1992), before returning to the Broncos, where he spent another two seasons, before becoming a foundation player with South Queensland Crushers.
I think everyone expected us to lose that opening game by 40 points and we went out, won that game then won the series.
Craig Teevan FOG #91
He started the 1995 season as the Crushers' halfback, but was dropped back to reserve grade, before establishing himself as the club's top hooker. His performances from hooker saw him selected as an interchange player for Queensland, and he played all three matches in the Maroons' clean sweep.
When the Crushers folded at the end of the 1997 season, Teevan joined Gold Coast Chargers and played 22 first grade matches. A qualified school teacher, Teevan became CEO of Ipswich Jets in 1999 and held that post for five seasons. He also worked in the media as a radio commentator at NRL matches.
In more recent times he has ventured into property investment, and has been heavily involved with the promotion of charity rugby league events.
His son, Zac, a former Ipswich Grammar student, came through the grades at Brisbane Tigers. Craig has a great love of horse racing.
