Biography

The son of a Central Queensland coal miner, Clinton Schifcofske played his junior rugby league with Moranbah Sharks, before being signed by the South Queensland Crushers.

At first he played for the Crushers' side in the Brisbane competition, and in 1995 toured Papua New Guinea with Queensland Residents. He made his first grade debut for the Crushers against North Sydney in 1996. After the demise of the Crushers at the end of the 1997 season, he joined Parramatta, where he remained for three seasons.

Schifcofske joined Canberra Raiders in 2001 and played six seasons for the club, scoring a then club record 245 points in his first season. He was twice winner of the club's Player of the Year award and finished his time at the club with 1052 points, a total bettered only by Jarrod Croker and David Furner.

Schifcofske made his State of Origin debut for Queensland on the wing in Game I, 2002. He had to wait another four years for his next chance, but what a game.

Every time Queensland win, I say to my young bloke, I played in the game when it all started.

He was fullback in the 2006 Series decider in Melbourne, a game which Queensland won 16-14, a result which set in motion a sequence of eight series wins. Schifcofske kicked two goals in that memorable decider.

He switched to rugby union in 2007 playing for the Queensland Reds, and representing Australia A.

Schifcofske also played union for Ulster in Ireland, before returning to league with the Wales based Celtic Crusaders in Super League. He has gone into sports management since his retirement at the end of the 2011 season.
