Biography
Chris Flannery was a fine utility player, a one-club man at the elite level, in Australia and England - with the Sydney Roosters and St Helens respectively.
Born in Cowra, New South Wales, Flannery's family moved to the Sunshine Coast and he played his junior footy for Kawana Dolphins, before signing with the Roosters.
He made his NRL debut in 2000, and remained with the Roosters until the end of the 2006 season, playing in three grand finals - a win over the Warriors and losses to Penrith Panthers and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
Flannery made his Queensland debut in Game II of the 2002 series, going on to feature in 10 Origin matches, six as an interchange player; three at lock and one on the wing.
Chris grew in stature and responsibility, with every passing season.
Brad Fittler Former Roosters, New South Wales and Australian skipper
He played his last game in Maroon in the 2006 decider, which Queensland won, to set up an unheralded period of success.
In 2007, after 126 NRL appearances for the Roosters, he moved to the Super League, where he played in four grand finals, being on the receiving end each time. But he won a Challenge Cup (knockout) competition in 2008.
He returned to Australia after the 2012 season and went on to become CEO of the Melbourne Storm affiliated Sunshine Coast Falcons in Queensland's Hostplus Cup.
