Biography

Chris Beattie is a North Ipswich Junior League product, who played rugby union at Ipswich Grammar.

Beattie played three seasons with Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup, before being signed by Cronulla Sharks. He was recommended to Sharks' coach, John Lang by Jets' Life Member, Noel Bragg. Beattie played nine NRL matches in 2000, and the following year was chosen for Queensland.

Being selected for Queensland was one of the proudest moments of my life.

A renowned hardman, Beattie also had good ball skills. He played three games for the Maroons in 2001 and 2002. After 86 games for the Sharks, Beattie played with Catalans Dragons in Super League in 2005-06, before returning to the NRL with Sydney Roosters in 2007.

After an injury disrupted season, he considered retirement, before being talked into a stint back in France, with Elite 1 club, Lezignan Sangliers, where he played for three years, and won three premierships. Chris's uncle, the late Dud Beattie, played 15 Tests for Australia between 1959 and 1962, and 19 matches for Queensland.
