Biography
A Brothers St Marks junior from Inala, Cavill Heugh was noted for his ability to get the ball away in tackles.
As his career progressed, he also developed into a strong defender. Heugh won a Brisbane premiership with Easts' Tigers in 1983, and toured Papua New Guinea and England that same year with the Maroons.
In 1984, Heugh represented Queensland against New Zealand at Lang Park and won the Rothmans Gold Medal as Brisbane's Best and Fairest player.
He made his State of Origin debut off the bench in Game III of the 1985 series. The following year, he started in the front row in Game II and Game III. Heugh joined Illawarra in 1987, spending three years at the Wollongong club.
Cavill has the potential to be the world's best forward.
Wayne Lindenberg Easts coach in 1985
Heugh was a handy goal kicker, no doubt helped by a background in soccer. He loved playing in England, where the style of football suited him, and had stints with Halifax, Leeds, Barrow, Rochdale and Fulham / London.
There also was a stint in France with Villeneuve-sur-Lot Leopards. In 1990, he played for Leeds against the touring Kangaroos.
Heugh had coaching stints at Easts Tigers, Ipswich Jets and the Casino Cougars in the Northern Rivers League of New South Wales.
He rates his former Brisbane Easts coach John Lang the biggest influence on his career. Easts have named an under 18s award after Cavill's late son, Tamaz.
