Biography

You knew what you were going to get with Andrew Gee on the field – hard-running, powerful defence and a team mate who could be relied upon, no matter what the situation.

These traits saw Gee enjoy a hugely successful career with the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland, spanning 14 years.

He was the first Bronco to notch 250 games with the club, and finished with 255 to his name. The tough prop / second rower was an Australian Schoolboys’ representative, from Beaudesert High, and joined the Broncos in 1989 after a short stint with Easts in Brisbane.

Gee took to first grade with ease, and received a maiden Queensland call-up for the second match of the 1990 series, coming off the bench in the Maroons' 12-6 loss at Melbourne's Olympic Park.

He made his starting debut at Lang Park in Game I of the 1991 series.

Everyone brings different things to a team, but he was a guy that brought steel and cohesion.

Gee won premierships with the Broncos in 1992, 1993, 1997 and 1998. He toured Papua New Guinea with the Australian side in 1991, but suffered an off-field foot injury, which threatened to derail his career. Surgeons put 11 pins in the foot, and rehab was a slow process. But Gee showed his trademark tenacity to be part of the Broncos' squad which beat St George 28-8 in the 1992 grand final.

Gee, whose ball skills came to the fore as he matured as a footballer, signed with English club, Warrington in 2000, alongside Broncos' and Queensland team mate, Allan Langer.

It may have been assumed both ex-Broncos were done in Australia, but the English stint effectively revitalised the duo, and they returned to the Broncos and Maroons in 2002, with Gee playing another five games for his state, during two final seasons with the Broncos.

On retirement, he served in a variety of off-field roles for Brisbane, including junior development, and later, manager of football operations.
