Biography:

Newly-appointed QRL South East chairperson Matt O’Hanlon is a highly-regarded Queensland sports administrator and former school teacher / principal.

As a vastly experienced educator, O’Hanlon has worked in Atherton, Blackwater, Bundaberg, Mackay and Rockhampton, before settling at Beenleigh State High School in 2009.

Each tenure formed another chapter in his rugby league journey, as O’Hanlon and his family immersed themselves in community rugby league.

From playing and coaching, to refereeing and running clubs and local leagues, O’Hanlon has filled just about every position possible, leading to his appointment on the South East council over the past three and a half years.

O’Hanlon has served in numerous sports administration roles, chairing the Capricornia School Sport Board (2000-2009), Queensland School Sport Management Group (2010-2019) and South Coast School Sport (2016-2022).

He has also served as a board member of Queensland School Sport (2012-2020) and School Sport Australia (2013-2020).
